Unique Names Day
How do you say, Panini?
March 1st is Unique Names Day? It’s a day to recognize and celebrate everyone with a unique and interesting name; just like “panini” [puh-nee-nee] at Panini’s on the Waterfront. Names are so important because they help to create our identity to the world and to ourselves.
The Origin of Panini
There are many words in the English language that may seem silly to some. Have you ever thought about where the words you use come from? One word that stands out as being unique is panini, but where did it come from? If you take a look at the Panini’s on the Waterfront’s menu, you will find a common thread of foods. Most foods have an Italian origin. Just like Panini’s on the Waterfront’s brick oven pizza, panini’s originated in Italy too. The Italian noun panino is the root word of pane which means bread. This refers to a bread roll. Panino is also often used to indicate a sandwich in general.
How Old Are Panini’s?
Did you know that the first U.S. reference to the panini goes back to 1956? However, it did also show up in a 16th-century Italian cookbook. In the 1970s and 1980s these types of sandwiches became trendy in Milanese bars, called paninoteche. U.S. restaurants began selling paninis during this time. During the 1980s, panini’s were the staple of Italy's first US-style fast food restaurants.
You’re Not Alone
If you have a unique name, you are not alone with Panini’s on the Waterfront. Panini is the first thing people think of when they hear Panini’s on the Waterfront, but we also offer a variety of foods like pizza, salads, and delicious entrees. Your name is the first thing people will remember about you. This is especially if it’s not a common one. Your name might not be the only thing about you that is important, but it is worth caring about. Honor your name like we honor paninis. What is the origin of your name? Celebrate yourself and others this March 1st.
